Test Yourself
Those seeking to grade should continually test themselves. You all have the grading curriculum handbook. Do you know your requirements? Can you perform your kata with confidence and demonstrate the applications? If you’re unsure of something please ask. In class I will periodically do mini tests to see where people are at. When it’s clear that you know your content I will invite you to grade. There may be a few soon…
Make the most of your time in class.
We have limited time each week in class. The goal is to learn some new things and improve existing things. It’s important to take on board any advice or corrections during class and work on them in your own time. Otherwise you will need the same advice or corrections next time and your progress will be limited. Always try to improve what you are doing, don’t just go through the motions. Pay attention to details. Correct your stance, use your hips, punch straight. Focus. Absorb the information that is presented. Learn to notice things in yourself that you can work on and work on them. Do this and every class will benefit your progress. Particularly those looking to advance to brown belt and beyond. Additional home practice is absolutely essential.
Video yourself, particularly practicing kata and compare your performance to the kata demonstration videos. Look for things that you are doing well and for things you can improve. There’s always something.
Finally, please make sure term fees are up to date or arrangements made. Thank you.
Have a great weekend.
